Should Jewish Believers Immigrate to Israel?

  Monthly Report: 6/1/1990

Weekly news magazines often testify to the accuracy of Bible prophesies over 2500 years old. For example, one headline on Soviet Jewry proclaimed, "The New Exodus". It confirms the words of Jeremiah without having the slightest idea it is doing so.

A huge influx of Soviet Jews is already transforming Israel...the historic Soviet immigration to Israel is a story of vibrant people building new lives. U.S. News & World Report May 7, 1990 A.D.

In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave to your fathers as an inheritance. Jeremiah 3:18, approximately 629 B.C.

Why should Jews return to the ancient land of their fathers? Even more relevant to our readers, why should Messianic Jews, Jews who have a relationship with God through Messiah and walk according to the whole Word of God, why SHOULD they go to Israel?

If someone asks you why Jews who have been born again should move to Israel, or be prayerfully setting a future date to immigrate, here are some basic Scriptures and reasons related to this momentous question.

Scripture states that one day all Jews will reside in Israel. Why then wait till later? Yes the transition of being a new immigrant is difficult. But if a Jew waits to immigrate, in most cases it will not be easier, but harder. The younger a person, usually the easier the transition.

If singles or couples with young children go now, they will be taking upon themselves the hardship, instead of putting it on their children. Preschool children or those in primary school will have the advantage of growing up in Israel for all practical purposes as sabras (native born). They will not even have an accent in their Hebrew! Junior high is harder, high school difficult, but not impossible.

Since all Jews will some day leave the diaspora, why not get the hard part over now?

Then they will know that I am the Lord their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then gathered them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer. Ezekiel 39:28

We talk so much about the Jews coming from the North country. But the Scriptures repeatedly state that the Jews from the west will also come to Israel. Again, why wait?

Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and gather you from the west. Isaiah 43:5

Behold these shall come from afar; And lo, these will come from the north and from the west. Isaiah 49:12

Behold I am going to save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west; and I will bring them back, and
they will live in the midst of Jerusalem... Zechariah 8:23 (See also Psalm 107:3.)

There are so many passages in the Bible concerning the benefits that God has promised his people who return to Israel that we cannot doubt His meaning. If words mean anything, those who go back to Israel will be blessed beyond measure.

And the Lord your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and He will prosper you more than your fathers. Deuteronomy 30:5

And I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will faithfully plant them in this land with all My heart and with all My soul...Just as I brought all this great disaster on this people, so I am going to bring on them all the good that I am promising them...for I will restore their fortunes. Jeremiah 32:41,42,44

Because of the blood of My covenant with you... This very day I am declaring that I will restore double to you. Zechariah 9:11,12

And they will repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. You will eat the wealth of nations, And in their riches you will boast. And instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion. Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land. Isaiah 61:4,6,7

Even a casual list of similar Scriptures would fill many pages. The physical and spiritual well-being of the Jewish people who return to Israel in the last days is one of the most repeated themes in the Bible.

Who wouldn't want to be a part of God's plan which is so important to Him that it dominates large portions of Scripture? Is it not God's master stroke that the city in which His Son was killed, will be the city from which world revival will spread?
And ALL the nations will stream to it... For the law will go forth from Zion, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Isa. 2:2,3

This theme is repeated over and over. It will surely come to pass.

And MANY nations will join themselves to the Lord in that day and will become My people. Zechariah 2:11

So MANY peoples and mighty nations will come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts, In those days ten men from all the nations will grasp the garment of a Jew saying, Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you. Zechariah 8:22-23

Paul the Apostle himself explains that if Israel's sin brought redemption to the world, what will her own revival bring but the resurrection of the dead!

Now if their transgression be riches for the world and their failure be riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be!

For if their rejection be the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? Romans 11:12,15

The year, month and day that this revival starts in earnest no one knows. However, the Bible makes it very clear that it will be at the time that the Jews return to the land of Israel. It makes it equally clear that it is because of God's New Covenant with Israel that the revival will come.

...The sons of Israel will come, both they and the sons of Judah as well; they will go along weeping as they go, and it will be the Lord their God they will seek.

They will ask for the way to Zion, turning their faces in its direction; they will come that they may join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten. Jeremiah 50: 4-5

The promises are so incredible to those Jews returning to Israel, that they are almost more than the mind can imagine.

There the whole house of Israel, all of them, will serve Me in the land; there I will accept them... Ezekiel 20:40

When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them from the lands of their enemies...And I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Lord God. Ezekiel 39:27,29

God emphasizes that this revival will touch our children. He promises to "bring them back to this place, give them a heart that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them. (Jeremiah 32:39)

There is hope for your future, declares the Lord, And your children shall return to their own territory...Behold, days are coming... when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel... Jeremiah 31:17,31

And all your children will be taught of the Lord; And the well-being of your children will be great. Isaiah 54:13

My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring's offspring, says the Lord, from now and forever. Isaiah 59:20-21

From the Scriptures we learn that there will be a great housing shortage-too many people for the amount of land. Obviously, those who return last will be the ones to suffer most from lack of housing. Undoubtedly, Israel will have to return to the use of tents for new immigrants as they did in the 1950's when great waves of immigrants came in. The waves yet to come will be far greater. Why not come now while there is yet room?

Your builders hurry...Surely now you will be too cramped for the inhabitants, And those who swallow you will be far away.

The children of whom you were bereaved will yet say in your ears, The place is too cramped for me; Make room for me that I may live here. Isaiah 49:16, 19-20

Zechariah specifically reveals the Jewish believers who came to the Lord while in exile will also find the land crowded. And this is after these believers settled in the ancient areas which are at this time still in the hands of the Arabs.

Whether the believers find it crowded because they came later on, or because there are so many of them, is not revealed.

They will remember Me in far countries, And they with their children will live and come back...And I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon, until no room can be found for them. Zechariah 10:9, 10

It seems clear from these samplings of Scriptures which direction God is leading - His people. Indeed, we are witnessing an awakening among the Messianic Jews in the West to begin plans to go home.

Some will go because of a response to a call on their hearts from God's fishers. Yet, the Scripture continues, "And afterwards I shall send for many hunters, and they will hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and from the clefts of the rocks." (Jeremiah 16: 16) Hunters represent persecution.

Let us pray that the believers will have arrived home before that terrible persecution begins. To our Christian friends, we would suggest that it would be a good to show this letter to any born again Jew you might know. For instance, Jewish believers may be attending your congregation. God may use you to be a gentle fisherman before the hunters appear on the stage of history.

Meanwhile, we continue to appeal in the Israeli courts for the right of Messianic Jews to freely immigrate to Israel. The appeal of Gary and Shirley Beresford, Messianic Jews from Zimbabwe, to immigrate to Israel, has not yet been reviewed by the Israeli Supreme Court. We will keep you posted.

However we can tell you right now, that because we have the Scriptures, we know that God will ultimately give the Jewish believers the freedom to return to His Land. If you are a Messianic Jew, we encourage you to meditate on these Scriptures, and ask God to show you when it is time for you to go Home.
