Prying Open the Gates of Israel to Receive All Jews

  Monthly Report: 7/1/1989

For the last three years we have written to you concerning the case of Gary and Shirley Beresford in the Supreme Court of Israel.

They are Messianic Jews from Zimbabwe: Messianic in that they have received Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah of Israel and Lord of their lives, Jewish in that the parents on both sides of Gary and Shirley's families are Jewish.

Over three years ago, they petitioned the Supreme Court to live in Israel as citizens, after the Rabbinical authorities tried to expel them from Israel, on the grounds that they are no longer Jewish because they believe that Yeshua is the Messiah of Israel.

The Supreme Court has still not decided this case. Meanwhile, a number of other Messianic Jews have arrived in Israel, and have been allowed to stay until a decision on the Beresford case is made.

It is clear that this case is of supreme importance in reference to God's plan to bring born again Jews back to the land of Israel in the last days.

Let us explain why. There have been hundreds of Messianic Jews immigrating to Israel in the last twenty years from many different countries, and they are still coming into Israel as God promised. But, they must slip past the immigration authorities who are trying to keep born again Jews out of Israel. Atheists, Buddhists, crooked business men, they are all welcome. But if a Godly Messianic Jew who loves his Lord and his nation wishes to immigrate, then he must make it "past the guards".

Many get through, but some are caught and deported.

The attempt by the Orthodox authorities to stop Messianic Jews at the border of Israel is very similar to the attempt by the British to stop almost all Jews from coming to Israel before 1948. The British, who were in control of Israel before her independence, permitted a tiny quota of Jews to immigrate to the Holy Land each year. The British did this to accommodate the Arabs.

However, thousand of Jews slipped off boats (like the Exodus) and waded ashore in the dead of night. But many were caught by the British and sent back to Europe only to meet their death in Hitler's concentration camps.

It was when Israel won her independence from the British that she could then open up her gates to as many Jews as would come to Israel. As many as would, that is, except the Jews who have committed their lives to the God of Israel through the Messiah, King of the Jews.

What God did for physical Israel, He is now ready to do for spiritual Israel-those who are true Jews, not circumcised in the flesh only, but circumcised in the heart.

We believe that one of the reasons God has delayed the outcome of the Beresford case, in the Supreme Court of Israel, is to give His people in many nations the opportunity to intercede for the victory in this case.

It is God's express will that He bring back the born-again Jews who are now in the diaspora (dispersion) to Israel. In fact, the closing message that Moses gave to Israel before he died specifically expresses this promise of God (Deut. 30).

This is a foundational portion of Scripture revealing God's strategy on His last day plans for Israel. In summary, it says:

1. Jews in the diaspora in the last days (after the blessing and the curse of the Law of Moses has fallen upon the them), will turn back to the Living God with all their hearts.

2. The Jews then will be moved upon by God to go to the one land He has designated for them. It is the land that our Fathers once possessed.

3. To accomplish this, God will take them out of the lands (throughout the world) where they are living.

4. It is because of compassion that God is doing it. (It is reasonable to believe that this has to mean it is going to be better for the Jews who go, than for the Jews who stay).

5. Now the Jews will possess the land of Israel. No other people including the Palestinians are to possess it.

6. In that land, Israel, God will bring a mighty revival of circumcision of the heart to His people.

7. Those who hate Israel and stand against her will now receive the curses of the Law, just as the Jews formally did.

8. God will materially bless His people in the Land of Israel.

Read it for yourself!

"So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind in all nations where the Lord your God has banished you,

and you return to the Lord your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons,

then the Lord your God will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you.

If your outcasts are at the ends of the earth, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you back.

And the Lord your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers.

Moreover the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, in order that you may live.

And the Lord your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you...
Then the Lord your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for the Lord will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers" Deut. 30:1-9.

We believe that one of the most important prayer projects of this day is to intercede for victory for the Beresfords. Pray that the Supreme Court of Israel will decide that a Jew who believes in Yeshua the Messiah has the legal right as a Jew to move to Israel. Yeshua never came to wipe out the Jewish nation! He came to save it from destruction!

We must continue to bombard the gates of hell that would keep believing Jews from coming back to Israel and attempt to frustrate the express will of God.

Every Messianic Jew outside Israel who prays for the gates of Israel to open to born again Jews, is actually praying for his own welfare.

Note that in the first return of Israel from Babylon, there were gates which had to be broken down. These words were spoken of Cyrus, the man who was anointed to help rebuild Israel and the Temple of the Lord:

"Thus says the Lord to Cyrus His anointed... To open doors before him so that gates will not be shut; I will go before you and make the rough places smooth; I will shatter the doors of bronze, and cut through their iron bars" Isa.45:1-2.

By far, the greatest need in Israel is to disciple leaders for the growing Messianic movement. There are many Israelis who hunger to be discipled in the ways of the Lord at a much quicker pace than is possible by attending one or two services a week. But because of their economic limitations they spend most of their waking hours trying to make enough money to feed themselves and their family.

There are now about thirty-five Hebrew speaking congregations and home groups in Israel today. Most are small, and poor with the average family making $500- $800 per month. Remember the cost of living is higher there than in most places in the U.S.

Israelis therefore struggle to meet their most basic needs and must live in tiny apartments, often with several children in a room. They work six days a week, 45-50 hours a week, most taking lengthy bus rides to their places of business.
Israelis, as a whole, tithe. However, total congregational giving is low because of the size of their salaries.

In order to quickly train a number of Hebrew speaking Israelis to be pastors, evangelists, teachers, lay workers, and to prepare them to operate in the gifts of the Spirit, they must have the opportunity to give themselves for a time exclusively to the Word of God, prayer and character building.

For the past dozen years, we, Ari and Shira, have felt and seen the great opportunity to raise up a Hebrew language Bible School for Israelis. (Of course, studies would be given in English also for the new immigrants and foreign students.) We are in the U.S. for two years raising funds for this Bible School. Approximately a year from now we expect to be back in Israel, to begin this Bible School, as God wills.

We also believe this is a strategic time for God's people in the Western World to give to this project now (or any other project to further the Kingdom for that matter). Many economists are forecasting a recession or worse, when God's people may no longer have the opportunity to give as they now have.

What if, for example, the U.S. and Canada had no Bible Schools or Training Centers anywhere to prepare both leaders and laymen? The Apostle Paul himself taught in a Bible School. It was as a result of Paul's concentrated teaching at a Bible School for two years that the Scriptures record that all of Asia heard the Gospel!

"...He took away the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. And this took place for two years, so that all who lived in Asia heard the Word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks" Acts 19:9-10. We believe that a Bible School in Israel is of utmost importance, and we need your help to raise $2,000,000. If God's people don't give it, who will? We will need many friends and co-laborers to give $10,000. There are those God has chosen to participate in this work of grace. Others will be able to give $5,000 or $1,000, $500, or less.

But it will take all of us to get the job done, as it was when the tabernacle was built. All who had a willing heart gave and they had more than enough to complete the tabernacle. Your giving will make the difference. We now have $115,000 given or pledged towards the Israeli Bible School.

We, of this generation, are not the possessors of unlimited time. What God has called some of us to do right now is get this Bible School established in Israel. Will you help us? Some of you who are able to give a significant amount-like $10,000, $5,000, or $1,000-may not be able to do it next year.

We have been told-although we ourselves did not read it-that there have actually been articles in the newspaper stating that the U.S. Congress is contemplating a law that under certain circumstances, U.S. money would not be allowed to be sent abroad. Think what that would do to the work of the Lord around the world.
Work while it is yet day, "for the night cometh when no man can work."

In our Messiah,
Ari & Shira Sorko- Ram
